Located in the city of Odawara, Kanagawa Prefecture, Kikukawatenmangu Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to Inari Okami, the kami of rice, fertility, and prosperity. The shrine is situated at the foot of Mt. Takao and is famous for its beautiful garden and traditional architecture. Visitor tip
To fully appreciate the shrine's beauty, visit during cherry blossom season (late March to early April) when the surrounding trees are adorned with vibrant blooms.
Cultural notes
As an Inari shrine, Kikukawatenmangu Shrine is associated with the mythology of the fox spirit Inari Okami. According to legend, Inari Okami was a patron deity of farmers and merchants. The shrine also celebrates the annual Tanabata festival in July, where devotees write wishes on tanzaku papers and tie them to the vermillion torii gate.
