Ebisu Shrine is a Shinto temple dedicated to the god of prosperity, good fortune, and fishing. Located in Nishinoshima, Saga Prefecture, the shrine is situated on a hill overlooking the Sea of Japan. According to local legend, Ebisu was a fisherman who was tasked with finding a place to rest after a long day of work. He chose this spot, which became his final resting place, and his spirit remained to watch over the fishing community.

Cultural notes
Ebisu is often depicted as a fat, smiling man carrying a large fish in his hand. The shrine also hosts an annual festival on November 19th, which features traditional foods such as mochi and nagashi-bonsai, and a boat race on the nearby river.

The shrine was originally built in 1679 during the Edo period as a humble torii gate, but it has since undergone numerous renovations and expansions.
