Located in the scenic town of Yurihara, Yamagata Prefecture is not the location, but rather Akita Prefecture's city of Noshiro in the Shimokita Peninsula on the northern tip of Honshu. The shrine is dedicated to the Shinto deity Kaito no Ōkami and Inari Okami respectively. Founded in 1724 by Tokugawa Ietsugu, a former vassal of the Tokugawa shoguns, it was originally located at an old temple that had been built on the site of a powerful yurei (vengeful spirit). The shrine's main hall and torii gate were rebuilt after the 1896 Akita earthquake. Today, visitors can experience the serene atmosphere and scenic views of the surrounding area.
