白山神社

Akita

Located in the town of Hirosaki, Aomori Prefecture is often confused with this shrine, however, it's actually located in the Akita prefecture. White Mountain Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the deity of Mount Iwate, but more notably to that of Iwato no kami and Hachiman and Inari's subordinate deities (Hachiman and Inari are primary kami for this shrine). It is believed to have originated in 718 during the Nara period. The shrine's architecture reflects traditional Japanese styles with a main hall built using cedar wood, surrounded by a wooden torii gate and an ornate garden. White Mountain Shrine holds a significant role as it was an important center of worship for the local inhabitants and its festivals and traditions reflect the region's unique cultural heritage.
