Yasaka Shrine, located in Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture, is one of Japan's most iconic Shinto shrines. Dedicated to the god of love and prosperity, Fujin, and the goddess of fertility, Hikoboshi, Yasaka Shrine is also known for its beautiful gardens and traditional architecture. Yasaka Shrine is famous for its annual Star Festival (Tanabata), which honors the meeting of two star-crossed lovers from different parts of Japan. Visitors can tie colored paper lanterns to the shrine's gates or hang them on the nearby Kannon-ji Temple, creating a stunning display of lights.
