Takayama Jinja Shrine is a Shinto temple dedicated to the goddess of mercy, Manabu-no-kozukafusa, and the god of agriculture, Takayama no Okami. The shrine is located in the heart of Kagawa Prefecture, within the city of Kotohira, and is one of Japan's most important pilgrimage sites. Cultural notes
Takayama Jinja Shrine is closely associated with the legend of Urashima Taro, a famous Japanese folktale about a fisherman who visits an underwater palace and falls in love with a sea goddess. The shrine also celebrates the annual Sanaka Matsuri festival, honoring the god Takayama no Okami.
