Located in the Japanese prefecture of Shizuoka, Suwa Jinja Shrine is dedicated to the kami Amaterasu-Okami, the Shinto sun goddess and primary deity of Japan's imperial family. As one of the oldest shrines in Japan, it dates back to the 8th century and was once considered a sacred site for the construction of the famous Tōdai-ji Temple in Nara.
