Located in the city of Maebashi, Gunma Prefecture, Ryoden Jinsha is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the storm god Inari, as well as Ryujin and the wind god Fūjin. The shrine is nestled in a scenic valley surrounded by mountains, embodying the natural harmony that is characteristic of Japanese Shintoism. It has played an important role in local history, particularly during times of agricultural prosperity.

Visitor tip
For a unique experience, visit Ryoden Jinsha early in the morning to see the sunrise over the surrounding mountains, and don't forget to make an offering to Inari at the main torii gate.
Cultural notes
Ryoden Jinsha is famous for its traditional architecture, which features a vermilion torii gate and a five-story pagoda. The shrine also holds an annual autumn festival called the 'Shōno-matsuri' in honor of Inari's patronage over agriculture.

The shrine was built in 1711 and rebuilt after being destroyed by fire.
