Cultural notes

According to local legend, Okuninushi, the god of the sea and fertility, was said to have been appeased by a local farmer who offered him a sacred sake, ensuring a bountiful harvest. Today, visitors can still see a large wooden sake barrel at the shrine, which is believed to be a symbol of gratitude.

Historical note

The shrine was founded in the Edo period (1603-1868) during the reign of Tokugawa Ieyasu.
