Indra Shrine in Aomori Prefecture is dedicated to the Shinto deity Susanoo, brother of Amaterasu, and the rice-goddess Kushinada-hime. The shrine was established in 720 AD during the Nara period, one of Japan's oldest shrines. Its unique architecture features a wooden torii gate, typical of Aomori Prefecture's traditional Shinto style.

Visitor tip
Visit during the annual Omusubi Festival to witness the ritual of presenting Omusubi, triangular-shaped rice balls, to Susanoo at the shrine.
