Located in Aomori, mountain spirit shrine Hiyamizaka Shrine has a rich history dating back to the Heian period and is dedicated to the Shugendo tradition. The shrine's name 'Hiyamizaka' translates to 'Mountain Whirlpool'. The shrine is also associated with the mountain god, Hiyamizaka no Okami, which roughly translates to Mountain Whirlpool God.
