Cultural notes

Ebisu is often depicted as a man holding a fishing rod or a basket. In Shinto mythology, Ebisu is associated with good fortune, prosperity, and protection from natural disasters. The shrine is also famous for its annual Ebisu Festival, which takes place in late July and features traditional music, dance, and food.

Historical note

Ebisu was enshrined at this site during the Heian period (794-1185 CE), but the current main hall was built in the Kamakura period (1185-1333 CE).
