Visitor tip
To make a wish for good hearing or to bring your child with ear problems, visit the shrine's ear-shaped shrine and tie a red ribbon around it with your prayer written on a small piece of paper.
Cultural notes
The ear god is believed to have the power to purify the ears and improve one's ability to listen. According to legend, the kami was summoned by a local resident who suffered from deafness. The shrine also hosts an annual festival in May, known as the 'Ear Festival', which features traditional music, dance, and theater performances.
Historical note
Founded during the Edo period (1603-1867), the shrine has been rebuilt and renovated several times throughout its history.
