Located in the heart of Akita, Godai Shrine is a sacred site dedicated to the worship of the Shinto god Ukanose-no-Mikoto, who was revered as the god of war and agriculture. The shrine's architecture reflects its history as a military temple, with features such as a large gate and several gates leading up to the main hall. Visitors can see many beautiful vermilion lanterns that adorn the grounds.

Visitor tip

When visiting Godai Shrine, try to catch a glimpse of the traditional 'Sasamichi' – a ritual procession that takes place on April 29th and May 1st, where shrine officials carry sacred items such as the god's shrine, ceremonial swords, and sacred sake.
