多賀神社

多賀神社 is a Shinto shrine located in the town of Nagareyama, Ibaraki Prefecture. The shrine is dedicated to the kami of the same name, who is said to reside at the base of Mount Natsukaze. The shrine's architecture is typical of Edo-period (1603-1867) shrines, with a vermilion torii gate and a wooden hall dedicated to the shrine's deity. Visitors can explore the surrounding forest and climb Mount Natsukaze for panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.

Visitor tip

Cultural notes

In addition to its natural beauty, the shrine is also notable for being the final resting place of the famous Japanese poet Nakano Sōsuke, who passed away in 1873. The shrine's forest is said to be the residence of the Yurei (vengeful spirit) of a samurai who was wronged by his lord.

Historical note

The shrine was founded in 1624 during the Edo period, making it one of the oldest shrines in Ibaraki Prefecture.
