Cultural notes

As Raijin is often depicted in Japanese mythology as a fierce storm god, this shrine's unique red roof symbolizes protection against lightning. Visitors can also explore the nearby Lake Sai, which is believed to be the legendary spirit 'Mizukuni' that dates back to the Heian period.

Historical note

Founded in 1604 by Date Masamune, the shrine has maintained its significance as a Shinto sanctuary throughout Japan's feudal era.
