Iwata-gu Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in Kagawa Prefecture, dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu and the storm god Susanoo. The shrine's architecture reflects the Heian period style, with a wooden torii gate and a vermillion-colored honden. Visitors can explore the shrine grounds, which include a tranquil pond and several smaller shrines. Iwata-gu Shrine is also known for its beautiful autumn foliage.

Visitor tip

Cultural notes

Iwata-gu Shrine is associated with the legend of Susanoo's battle against the giant Namikaze-no-kami. The shrine also hosts an annual Festival of the Storm God (Susanoo no Matsuri), which features traditional dances and offerings to ensure good weather.

Founded during the Heian period (794-1185 CE), Iwata-gu Shrine has been continuously worshipped at this site since then.
