The Dewa Sanzan, a sacred mountain range, is said to be the dwelling place of Amaterasu Okami, the Shinto sun goddess. The Inari Shrine in Aomori Prefecture is dedicated to Inari Okami, the god of rice and fertility. Located near the coast, this shrine is believed to have been built to ward off evil spirits from the sea. As one of the oldest shrines on the Sanzan mountain range, it has a long history dating back to the 8th century.

Cultural notes
The shrine is famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates that symbolize the connection between the mortal world and the realm of the kami. During the autumn season, visitors can enjoy the stunning fall foliage at the shrine's mountainous grounds. The shrine is also known for its traditional festivals, including the Inari Matsuri, which takes place in May.
