熊野神社

Miyagi

Located in the heart of Sendai, Japan's fourth-largest city, is the ancient Shrine of Ōtsu no Mori no Kami, also known as Kamakura-guchi or simply Kesanuma-san, commonly referred to as 熊野神社. The shrine is famous for its beautiful autumn foliage and serene forested grounds. This sacred site has been an important Shinto temple since the 16th century, originally established during the Edo period by a local lord named Tsunemasa who was devoted to the god of the forest, known as Ōtsu no Mori no Kami or simply Ōtsu-san. The shrine's architecture reflects its regional style with elements reminiscent of traditional Miyagi Prefecture shrines and features stunning autumnal colors in fall.
