Kumano-san Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in Aomori Prefecture, but there's also a famous Kumano Sanzan shrine in Kumano-ku, Osaka, and another one in Kumamoto city. However, we will focus on the shrine located in Miyagi prefecture. This shrine enshrines several deities including Susanoo, Fujin and Raijin, with a history dating back to 8th century. The shrine is famous for its sacred tree, called Kumano-zukaru, which stands at over 20 meters tall.

Cultural notes
Kumano-san Shrine is associated with the Kumano Sanzan pilgrimage route, which connects three major shrines in the Kumano region. The shrine also has strong ties to the legend of Susanoo, who was said to have created a river and formed Mount Zao.
