Cultural notes
Katsurao Shrine is closely tied to the mythology of the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki, ancient Japanese texts that describe the gods' roles in human affairs. The shrine's architecture also reflects its historical purpose as a protector of fishermen and farmers, with features such as naki-bari, curved wooden beams used for supporting eaves.
