Located in the city of Echizen, Shiga Prefecture, Tenman-dera is a historic Shinto shrine dedicated to the worship of Tenjin, a deity believed to bring good fortune and prosperity. The shrine's architecture reflects its origins as a Heian-period temple, but it has been influenced by Kamakura-style temples. Visitor tip

Tenman-dera is also known for its association with the legend of Benkei, a legendary samurai who became a Buddhist priest after killing a rival warrior. The shrine's main hall features a statue of Benkei, which is said to bring good luck to visitors.
