Located in the heart of Kyoto, Tenno-ji Shrine is a revered Shinto site that has been an integral part of Japanese culture since its establishment in 957 CE during the Heian period. As one of the oldest and largest shrines in Japan, it enshrines several deities known as kami, including Susanoo-no-Mikoto, Kotoshiro-no-Kami, and Yamabe-no-Kamado.

Cultural notes
