Located in the Akita Prefecture, the Ōdate Jinja is one of Japan's oldest shrines, dating back to the Heian period (794-1185). Visitor tip

Cultural notes
Ōno-Tsumari is believed to be the kami enshrined at Ōdate Jinja. The shrine hosts several festivals, including the Akita Kanto Festival in April and the Yuki no Sekai festival in February, which celebrates winter and snow. A unique feature of the shrine is its use of a herringbone-patterned torii gate.
