Located in the heart of Akita, Village Du Eight Hara Shrine is a historic Shinto shrine dedicated to the enshrined deity, Otohime's brother, or a related kami, likely, Yamato-takeru's (also known as Ōhirume-no-muchi-no-kami), and also UtsukuniŌno-Ō no Kami or Otsukubemono, however most often associated with the Eight Hara Kami , it is one of the oldest shrines in Akita. Its traditional architecture reflects the Heian period.

Visitor tip

Cultural notes
This shrine is famous for its association with the Eight Hara Kami , a group of gods said to have created the village. It also hosts an annual Shishimai festival in May, where participants wear traditional costumes and perform a ritual dance.

Founded during the Nara period (710-794 CE), this shrine is considered one of the oldest Shinto shrines in Akita Prefecture.
