Located in the heart of Ibaraki Prefecture, 体见神社 (Tetsu-ina Shrine) is a serene Shinto shrine dedicated to the kami Tatsu-no-kami, the god of iron and the forge. The shrine's architecture reflects the region's history as an important center for iron production during the Edo period.

Visitor tip

Visitors can enjoy the shrine's peaceful grounds during cherry blossom season (late March to early April), when over 1,000 cherry blossom trees bloom beautifully.

Cultural notes

Tatsu-no-kami is believed to have been enshrined at Tetsu-ina Shrine since its founding, and is often depicted in local art and literature as a powerful and protective deity. The shrine also hosts an annual Spring Festival (Haru Matsuri) to celebrate the arrival of spring and the god's blessings for ironworking.

Historical note

Founded in 1697 by the Ibaraki daimyo (feudal lord) Yoritada Matsudaira, Tetsu-ina Shrine has been a significant cultural and spiritual hub in the region ever since.
