Cultural notes

Ai-Tandō Shrine is closely associated with the legend of Tokitsukuni no Osafune, a legendary samurai from Akita who brought peace to the region by defeating his rival. The shrine also honors Inazuma-Okami, the god of lightning and storms.

Founded in 1665 by order of Tokugawa Tsunayoshi, the fifth shogun of the Edo period, to promote peace and unity among the regions.
