Located in the heart of Kyoto, Matsudaira Shrine is a Shinto temple dedicated to the god of rice and agriculture, Karatsu Okami. Dating back to the Heian period (794-1185 CE), the shrine has undergone several renovations and expansions over the centuries. Its current architecture reflects the Edo period style, with a distinctive red-tiled roof and traditional torii gate.

Matsudaira Shrine is closely associated with the mythology of rice and agriculture in Japan.
