Cultural notes
Heiwa-ji Temple is famous for its connection to Ryūjin, the dragon god of sea and weather. According to legend, Ryūjin was said to have created the Miyagi prefecture's coastline. The shrine also hosts an annual autumn leaves festival, where visitors can enjoy traditional food, drinks, and performances.

The shrine was rebuilt in 1615 after being destroyed by a fire.
