Ai Datsumiya Shrine, located in the coastal city of Ishinomaki in Miyagi Prefecture, is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the storm god Taiho no Okami and the god of mercy Ai. The shrine is famous for its beautiful gardens and traditional architecture, with a history dating back to 718 CE during the Nara period.

Visit the shrine's garden during cherry blossom season (late March to early April) for stunning views of the blooming sakura trees.
Cultural notes
As a coastal shrine, Ai Datsumiya Shrine is closely associated with the mythology of Taiho no Okami, who is said to control the oceans and storms. The shrine also hosts an annual festival in May, known as 'Taiho no Okami Matsuri', which honors the storm god and features traditional dances and offerings.
Historical note
The shrine was rebuilt in 1874 after being destroyed by fire.
