Tenshinsha is a Shinto shrine located in the town of Kesennuma, Miyagi Prefecture. Dedicated to Amaterasu Omikami, the primary enshrined deity is Hachiman Okami, known as the god of war and patron of the imperial family. The shrine's design reflects its location on the coast, with a wooden torii gate that stands at the water's edge. A unique feature of Tenshinsha is the shrine's proximity to the Sea of Japan, which is believed to have spiritual significance in local Shinto traditions.

Cultural notes
Tenshinsha has long been associated with the mythology of Izumo Takeru, a legendary warrior who was said to have fought in the Battle of Bun'ei. Locals also celebrate an annual shrine festival in August to honor the god of war and ensure safe passage for naval vessels.
Historical note
Founded in 1869 by the samurai lord Miharu Tsuneoki, Tenshinsha was established to commemorate the Battle of Toba-Fushimi, a pivotal event in Japanese history that marked the end of the Sengoku period.
