Visitor tip

To make an offering at the shrine's famous orange tree, arrive early in the morning when the sun has not yet risen, as this is considered the best time to connect with the kami.

Cultural notes

The Age no Shrine is also known for its association with the myth of Urashima Taro, a fisherman who lived in a neighboring village and was said to have been granted eternal youth by the sea goddess Otohime. According to legend, visitors can still see the shrine's wooden boat, which is believed to be Urashima Taro's vessel.

Historical note

The shrine was dedicated to Inari Okami, the kami of fertility and prosperity, who is often invoked for good fortune and success in business.
