Cultural notes
As one of the oldest shrines in Japan, Dan no Soko-sha is deeply connected to the mythology of the Susanoo-no-Kami, a storm god and brother of Amaterasu. The shrine's architecture reflects its long history, with buildings dating back to the Heian period (794-1185 CE). Visitors can experience traditional Japanese culture by attending one of the many festivals held throughout the year, including the annual Susanoo Festival.
Historical note
The shrine was established during the Asuka period (around 645 CE) and played a significant role in the history of Hikone Castle.
