Ryukyu-inari Shrine, located in Akita Prefecture, is one of the oldest Shinto shrines dedicated to Inari Okami, the Shinto god of rice and prosperity. Founded during the Heian period (794-1185 CE), the shrine has been rebuilt several times due to damage from natural disasters and wars. Ryukyu-inari Shrine is famous for its sacred rice stores, called 'shinmei,' which are believed to bring good fortune and prosperity. Visitors can participate in traditional rituals, such as the 'shinmei-keiko' ceremony, to purify their minds and bodies.
Historical note
The original shrine was built in 816 CE, but was destroyed by fire in 1271 CE during the Nanboku-chō period (1336-1392 CE).
