玉津嶋神社

Located in the town of Hikone, Omi Province, is the ancient Shinto shrine,玉津嶋神社 (Mikasa Shrine). As one of the oldest shrines in Japan, its origins date back to the Heian period. The shrine's main deity, Mikasa no Okami, is believed to be a kami associated with the mythical land of Mikasa, said to have existed on Lake Biwa.
