Tamidaiso Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in the town of Miyako, Ibaraki Prefecture. Visitor tip
To fully appreciate the shrine's serenity, visitors should bring water to make a purification ritual (senbazuru) at the torii gate before entering the garden.
Cultural notes
The shrine's annual festival, Fujin Matsuri, honors Tsukuyomi-no-kami and features traditional performances, including Kabuki theater and yamabushi drumming. The shrine is also notable for its unique 'wind prayer' ceremony (kaze no norito), where visitors pray for good winds while facing the wind direction.
Historical note
The shrine was originally built in 1621 during the Edo period as a temple dedicated to Fujin Ryujin. It later converted to Shintoism and became Tamidaiso Shrine.
