Ibaraki

Tanabata Shrine, located in Mito City, Ibaraki Prefecture, is dedicated to the star-crossed lovers Orpheus and Eurydice, a mythological pair from Greek origin. However, it's worth noting that the shrine was originally founded as Omiya Hachimangu Shrine, which enshrines the Shinto deity Hachiman. Over time, Tanabata Shrine has evolved to incorporate elements of Western folklore. Visitors can walk through the beautiful gardens and take in the stunning views of the surrounding mountains, especially during cherry blossom season. The shrine's history dates back to 1604.
