Located in the town of Katsuragawa, Ibaraki Prefecture, Nihonmatsu Jokoen Temple's subsidiary shrine, Mutsu no Okamiya Shrine, is dedicated to the kami Mutsu no Okami. Cultural notes
This shrine is famous for its unique 'Five Pillar Torii', a rare architectural feature where five large stone pillars support a torii gate. The shrine also plays an important role in local folklore, with stories of the kami Mutsu no Okami being said to have appeared to fishermen and brought them good fortune.
Historical note
The shrine was rebuilt in 1602 during the Edo period, following a fire that destroyed it in 1595.
