Nikko's famous Toshogu Shrine's sister shrine in Ibaraki Prefecture, Kinugawa Onsen town, is Kumano no Okappi Shrine dedicated to the Kumano trinity of gods. Unlike the more famous shrine in Nikko, Kumano no Okappi Shrine honors a specific deity from each of the three main Kumano shrines. The shrine's architecture and decorations reflect its historical origins as a Shinto shrine built during the Heian period, but many modern additions date back to the Edo period.
