菊池神社

菊池神社 is a Shinto shrine located in the town of Katsuta, Ibaraki Prefecture, known for its picturesque location at the foot of Mount Nantai. The shrine is famous for its beautiful gardens and traditional architecture, which date back to the Heian period (794-1185 CE). According to legend, the shrine was founded by a local lord who built a wooden torii gate in 718 CE, making it one of the oldest shrines in Japan.

Visitor tip
