Located in the city of Sakurako, Ibaraki Prefecture, 駒掛神社 is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the kami of Mount Iwate and the sea. The shrine's architecture reflects the regional Heian period style, with a wooden torii gate and a hipped roof. According to local legend, the shrine was built in 744 CE by Emperor Shomu to commemorate his victory over the neighboring kingdom of Kyushu.
