Fudō-Myōō, the Bodhisattva of Mercy, is enshrined at Fudo-Myooinari Shrine in Ōta, Shizuoka Prefecture. The primary kami, Inari Okami, patron deity of rice, fertility, and industry, is also revered here. This shrine is closely associated with the famous fox spirit, Inari Ōkami, said to have guided the fox spirits to the shrine's founding site.

Visitor tip
To show respect, bow deeply upon entering the shrine grounds, then receive a sacred rice ball at the entrance, which symbolizes gratitude for the blessings of the kami.
Cultural notes
This shrine is famous for its fox statues and fox-themed decorations, reflecting the revered association with Inari Ōkami. The annual Ōta Cherry Blossom Festival is also held here, attracting thousands of visitors each year.
Historical note
The shrine was established in 746 CE during the Nara period as a temple dedicated to Fudo-Myōō and later became an independent Shinto shrine in 1633. It is also believed to have been influenced by Buddhist elements from the region.
