Tenryu-ji Shrine in Akita Prefecture is dedicated to the deity of rice and agriculture, Kamado no Okayami, and also enshrines Hachiman, the god of war, and Shinto scholar Inasa Nakatomo's spirit. The shrine complex features a large vermilion torii gate, a hall dedicated to Hachiman, and a small shrine for the local deity, Kamado no Okayami.

Visitor tip
To avoid long lines, visit Tenryu-ji Shrine early in the morning or later in the evening, when it is less crowded with tourists.
Cultural notes
The shrine is famous for its traditional 'yatai' food stalls offering local specialties such as torisashi (raw chicken skewers) and sake. In May, the shrine holds a grand festival celebrating the deity of rice and agriculture, which features parades, music performances, and traditional games.
Historical note
The shrine was founded in 1338 by Katsunaga, a loyal vassal of Muromachi Shogun Ashikaga Takauji.
