栄原金刀比羅神社, located in Sapporo's central district, is one of the oldest shrines in Hokkaido with a rich history dating back to the Jomon period. The shrine was originally dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu and her consort Susanoo-no-Mikoto, but over time, it came to be associated with the storm god Raijin and the god of agriculture, Enma. Today, visitors can still feel the essence of Shinto tradition as they walk through the serene gardens and approach the majestic torii gate.

Cultural notes
Stacking coins in the shrine's coin box is believed to have originated from a practice where people would throw coins into the river to ensure good luck. At the beginning of each year, visitors can participate in this tradition by dropping coins for good fortune.
