Located in the mountains of Akita Prefecture, Shrines white waterfall frog (, Shirakawa no Kame) honors the Shinto spirit, believed to have originated from local legend about a giant frog said to reside at the bottom of White Waterfall. The shrine is built on a site where the waterfall plunges into a natural pool, creating a misty veil that rises from the water's surface.

Historical note

The shrine was rebuilt in 1924 after being destroyed by fire during World War II.
