Love and Fertility Shrine, located in the heart of Osaka, Enoshima love god Tenjin is believed to reside here. Dedicated to the protection of the city's prosperity and good fortune, Ueno love god Tenjin was enshrined at this location by the Oei daimyo, Chōsai Ueno.

Visitor tip

For an authentic experience, participate in the daily torii purification ritual at sunrise or sunset, and donate a small token of gratitude to the kami.

Cultural notes

This shrine is closely tied to the mythological story of the love god Tenjin's arrival on Japanese soil. According to legend, Tenjin was granted immortality by the Sun Goddess Amaterasu and brought fire, agriculture, and civilization to Japan. The shrine also hosts an annual Cherry Blossom Festival in spring.

Re-established in 1619 during the Edo period.
