According to legend, the shrine was built after a fisherman prayed for safe passage and received a vision from the god of the sea, who appeared as a giant wave that washed away his worries.

Visitor tip
To avoid getting wet during your visit, consider arriving early or late in the day when the tide is low. Be sure to take a boat to cross to the island, as it is not connected by land.
