Cultural notes
Suga shrines commemorate the mythological palace that Susanoo built in Izumo after slaying the great serpent and marrying Kushinada-hime. The name 'Suga' comes from Susanoo's poem expressing how refreshed (sugasugashi) he felt at this location.
