Cultural notes

Hakosaka Shrine is associated with the sea kami, Namazu-e. According to legend, the giant catfish Namazu resides at the bottom of Osaka Bay and the shrine's waters are said to be his sacred realm. The shrine also celebrates the annual 'Naminarizuka' festival, which honors the spirits of the bay.
