大放神社

Located in the Settsu region of Hyogo Prefecture, Daikō Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the deity of wealth and prosperity, Fukutami no Kami. The shrine's architecture reflects its historical significance as a major hub during the Edo period, with a traditional tatamibari (hollowed-out tree trunk) torii gate. Visitors can experience the tranquility of the surrounding forest, which is said to be home to the kami's sacred powers.

Visitor tip

To experience the full charm of the shrine, visit during cherry blossom season ( late March to early April) and take a stroll along the nearby River Yumura.

Cultural notes

Daikō Shrine is famous for its unique torii gate, which is said to be made from a hollowed-out tree trunk. The shrine also hosts an annual festival, the Daikō Matsuri, in honor of Fukutami no Kami, where visitors can participate in traditional rituals and games.

Historical note

Founded in 1684 as a memorial to Tokugawa Yoshimune, the shrine has been an important center for local merchants and traders.
